A very large number of Outer Banks visitors pass through beautiful Currituck County on their way to the beach.  Perhaps unbeknownst to them Mainland Currituck has some of the most fun and fascinating shopping, restaurants and activities on the Outer Banks!

Currituck County makes up the northern part of the Outer Banks and including Carova and Corolla, north of Duck on Highway 12. Carova and Corolla are special in their own way but Mainland Currituck, referred to simply as “Currituck”, is often overlooked. All along Highway 168 coming out of Virginia and where it becomes Highway 158 at Barco, there are lovely little towns. Each town has its own unique flavor and offerings to visitors.

In the town of Moyock, just across the border from Virginia, you will find a fun collection of shops with souvenirs galore!  As you venture south keep your eyes open for some of the finest fresh produce stands you will ever experience.  Stop and pick up some of the amazingly fresh locally-grown fruit and vegetables to eat during your Outer Banks vacation.

Currituck has an fine assortment of restaurants.  From fresh seafood to outstanding BBQ you will find small restaurants that prepare surprisingly delicious cuisine.

Outdoor activities include fishing, hunting and trap shooting, monster trucks and a mud track, and some of the finest skateboard parks in the country. There are several campgrounds and marinas tucked back along the scenic waterways as well.

There are also several excellent golf courses along the way providing challenging play for duffers and pros alike.  Don’t let the traffic get you down. Stop into one of these championship courses and squeeze in 9 or 18 holes to break up the trip.

Make the trip through Currituck an adventure by stopping and shopping! There is a huge variety of souvenir and antique stores. You can even find locally brewed beer and wine which will be perfect to enjoy during your Outer Banks vacation!

Currituck County isn’t just a way to get to the Outer Banks. It is a wonderful part of everything the Outer Banks has to offer and holds many surprises and treasures for those venturing from the highway!
